Winklevoss Twins Take Sly Dig At Kamala Harris' No-Show At The Latest Roundtable: 'Don't Worry, She's Really Into Crypto'

Winklevoss twins, the co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, expressed their disappointment over Vice President Kamala Harris’ absence at a recent cryptocurrency roundtable, despite reports of her professed interest in the sector.

What Happened: In a post on Thursday, Cameron Winklevoss questioned Harris’ repeated no-shows at events meant to boost engagement between the White House and key stakeholders in the cryptocurrency industry.

He said, “Harris is a no-show again for the latest crypto roundtable. But don’t worry, she’s really into crypto. She gets it. Progress is being made. We just can’t point to anything at this time.”

His twin brother, Tyler Winklevoss also jumped in, saying, “The relevant excerpt: “Harris has not yet openly taken a position on crypto.”

The remarks were in reponse to a report by The Block highlighting a virtual meeting between industry leaders and top White House officials. The meeting reportedly witnessed the participation of U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo, National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard, White House deputy chief of staff Bruce Reed and director of legislative affairs for Vice President Harris, Kristine Lucius

Why It Matters: The Winklevoss twins have been loud critics of the Joe Biden administration’s cryptocurrency policies, and their complaints have continued with Harris, who officially became the Democratic presidential contender after the incumbent’s withdrawal.

Last month, Tyler Winklevoss slammed Harris’ decision to decline an invitation to speak at The Bitcoin Conference in Nashville. He expressed frustration as to why she was given an invitation despite the perceived hostility.

The twins have previously shown their political leanings through their donations. They have made significant Bitcoin BTC/USD donations to campaigns, including those of former President Donald Trump and John Deaton, a pro-crypto candidate running against Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Meanwhile, the Democratic cryptocurrency lobby announced the launch of a "Crypto for Harris" advocacy group, aimed at exploring strategies to back the Vice President’s campaign and boost fundraising efforts.
