Here's Where To Buy Legal Weed: Cannabis Shops Popping Up Across Florida And Ohio As Canadian Retail Giant Celebrates Milestone

Zinger Key Points
  • Three cannabis companies boosted its retail footprint in Florida where recreational weed is on the ballot this November.
  • Cannabis sales are surging in Ohio following last year's legalization of recreational marijuana and its recent sales launch.

Florida's Four New Cannabis Stores

Even though recent Florida polls showed differing perspectives on the level of support for the state's ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana, cannabis companies continue to ramp up their retail footprint statewide.

Cannabis giant Curaleaf Holdings, Inc. CURA CURLF started sales at 2E 9 Mile Rd, Pensacola-based store on August 9. This is the company’s second medical dispensary in the area, located in the shopping district along the city’s historic Nine Mile Road and featuring a wide selection of cannabis products and brands, including the new Select Fruit STIQ all-in-one vape, JAMS edibles, B NOBLE, and its all-in-one two-gram vape, Select BRIQ.

Last week, Curaleaf launched another medical cannabis shop in Florida, at 34761 Emerald Parkway, Suite #02, in Destin. That's the company's first medical dispensary in Okaloosa County, servicing the scenic coastline that stretches alongside Henderson Beach State Park.

In the meantime, the Las Vegas-based cannabis powerhouse Planet 13 Holdings Inc. PLTH PLNH is opening Planet 13 Ocala on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 8750 SW 200th St. Suite 101. Bob Groesbeck, the company's co-CEO said that's its 27th cannabis shop in the Sunshine State.

Lastly, Florida-based medical cannabis giant Trulieve TCNNF, which has poured nearly $55 million to support the legalization initiative known as Amendment 3, held a grand-opening ceremony at its new medical cannabis dispensary in New Port Richey on Friday, Aug. 16. Located at 7002 State Rd 54, the new shop is Trulieve's second dispensary in New Port Richey, CEO Kim Rivers said.

Ohio's Marijuana Market Blossoms

Ohio is seeing a surge in cannabis sales following the legalization of recreational marijuana taking effect recently. Moreover, it seems, the state is on track for approximately $842 million in annual adult-use sales if these trends persist, considering that from August 6 to August 10, dispensaries across the state amassed over $11.5 million in revenue, according to the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control's data.

That said, Ascend Wellness Holdings, Inc. AAWH AAWH, a multi-state, vertically integrated cannabis operator, expanded access to adult-use sales in Ohio at its fifth location last week. As of Thursday, Aug. 15, the company's shop at 3560 Dolson Ct NW # B in Carroll, started serving non-medical customers 21 years of age or older, joining other Ascend stores in Cincinnati, Coshocton, Piqua and Sandusky.

Ethos Cannabis also kicked off cannabis sales at its dispensary in Lebanon. With the move, Ethos Cannabis joined over 100 other dispensaries statewide now offering recreational marijuana sales. Other Ethos retail locations will follow suit shortly, including a New Lexington store slated to open in mid-to-late October, offering medical and adult-use cannabis, and a third location in January 2025.

Other States Follow Suit

In New Jersey Canna Remedies, a holder of an adult-use cannabis license, celebrated the grand opening of its dispensary at 2175 Spruce Street in Ewing last week. Serving all of Mercer County, including Trenton and points beyond, the friends and family-owned, pharmacist-led cannabis destination kicked off its opening week with a community celebration featuring discounts, giveaways and ice cream truck treats.

Cookies, the international cannabis and lifestyle brand from rapper Berner, aka Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr., held the grand opening of its second adult-use cannabis dispensary in New Mexico last week. Located at 1500 Appaloosa Dr., Ste B in Sunland Park, the brand's first storefront in southern New Mexico will showcase Cookies' world-renowned suite of products, along with a curated selection of local cannabis brands, beginning Saturday, Aug. 17.

As of last week, the newest dispensary in metro Detroit, Michigan – NOXX Cannabis – started selling cannabis and is now serving recreational marijuana customers. Located at 23622 Woodward Ave, the dispensary is on the Woodward Dream Cruise route, between 9 Mile Road and 10 Mile Road.
