'I Got Marijuana Legal In Ohio' Says Rapper Afroman Toasting Fellow Ohioans With Pink And Gold Goblet

Grammy-nominated rapper Afroman — an Ohio native known for his hit “Because I Got High” — celebrated the legalization of recreational marijuana in a fun social media video in which he takes credit for getting weed legal in the Buckeye state.

In the five-minute clip, reported by NBC4, Afroman, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, raised a large pink and gold goblet, greeting his fellow Ohioans with a hearty “You're welcome,” as he toasted the new law.

“I got marijuana legal in Ohio," Afroman said. "I want to thank all the people that supported and stayed down like four flat tires."

Afroman posted the video on Aug. 6, the day recreational weed officially went on sale at over 100 existing medical marijuana shops, including those owned by multi-state operators Verano Holdings (Cboe CA: VRNO) VRNOF, Trulieve TRUL TCNNF, Curaleaf Holdings CURLF, Rise Dispensaries, Acreage Holdings ACRHF and Green Thumb Industries GTBIF,

"I want to make a toast to my fellow Ohioans. Yes, marijuana is now legal in the state of Ohio. Today is our liberation day,” said Afroman. “Nobody else in Ohio gets raided because they have marijuana. Nobody gets their door kicked down and their home vandalized because they have marijuana."

Afroman was referring to a raid on his home in the southern Ohio town of Winchester two years ago when local sheriffs barged with guns blazing in but turned up nothing illegal.

Nevertheless, it provided Afroman with material for several songs in which he used footage of the cops from his home security cameras.

His songs included "Lemon Pound Cake," in which one officer is caught staring at a plate of pound cake in Afroman's kitchen and another "Will You Help Me Repair My Door."

Freedom Of Speech And Running For President

"Now that I got marijuana legal in the state of Ohio, I gotta fight for freedom of speech. And just like I got marijuana legal in Ohio, I can get it legal all over the United States of America if you put Afroman in office. I'm just putting that out there,” he said as he raised the pink and gold goblet. "So here's to you, Ohio. Today's a good day. Congratulations."
