Labor Day Weekend With A Billionaire: Did Benzinga Readers Pick Musk, Branson, Cuban, Gates Or Bezos?

Zinger Key Points
  • The stock market is closed on Labor Day, giving investors an extra day for the weekend.
  • Hanging out with a billionaire could include tours of companies they run or investment advice. Possibly a ride on a superyacht.

Many investors and employees in the financial sector will enjoy a longer than normal weekend with the stock market closed on Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day.

A recent Benzinga poll found out what billionaire investors want to spend the Labor Day holiday with.

What Happened: When it comes to the world's richest people, many got rich later in life and from leading companies or investing in some of the companies that would go on to be the most valuable in the world.

Those factors may have played a role in a new Benzinga question on spending time with a billionaire.

"Which billionaire would be the most fun to spend Labor Day weekend with?" Benzinga asked.

Here are the possible answers and results:

Elon Musk: 45%

Mark Cuban: 27%

Richard Branson: 17%

Bill Gates: 7%

Jeff Bezos: 4%

Musk won the poll with nearly half of the vote from the five choices. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise given the love for Musk from most investors.

The big question would be what a Labor Day weekend looks like for Musk, who is a known workaholic who rarely takes breaks from the companies he operates.

For the person hanging out with Musk, perhaps Labor Day weekend would consist of tours of the Tesla and SpaceX headquarters or a look at how social media platform X operates.

Finishing in second place was Cuban, an investor, Shark Tank member and NBA team owner. With the NBA in the offseason during Labor Day weekend, there wouldn't be the opportunity to go sit courtside at a Mavericks game or hang out with the players. The opportunity to hang out with Cuban and pick the mind of the legendary investor and NBA owner likely appealed to readers.

Branson ranked third and could offer the perfect Labor Day weekend for thrill seekers. Branson is known for his trip to outer space, flight in a hot-air balloon and many other risky events. A vacation with Branson could be one that a reader never forgets. Branson owning a private island might also play into the vacation equation.

Gates and Bezos finished in a distant fourth and fifth place. This suggests that readers don't see as much value in hanging out with either billionaire. Perhaps readers also don't like luxury on the high seas, as a weekend vacation with Bezos could involve taking a trip on one of the most valuable superyachts in the world that costs $25 million annually to operate.

Did You Know?

Why It's Important: While the reader poll is purely hypothetical, it could illustrate which billionaires are most trusted by investors and who is viewed as offering valuable advice going forward.

Musk also ranked first in a social media poll asking who a person would rather sit by on a 10-hour flight, with a seat next to Musk and Mark Zuckerberg getting 45% of the vote.

Another recent Benzinga poll found Musk and Cuban tied for second for who readers would most trust with investing their life savings. Warren Buffett ranked first in that poll.
