Which 4 Teams Have Never Reached The Super Bowl? Betting Payouts If History Is Made In 2024 NFL Season

Zinger Key Points
  • Since 1967, 20 of the current 32 NFL teams have been to at least one Super Bowl.
  • A look at the four teams to never reach a Super Bowl and eight teams to appear in a Super Bowl and never win.

While the majority of the NFL teams have won a Super Bowl, there are some teams that haven't, or in some cases haven't even been, to the big game.

The Detroit Lions nearly erased their name from this list no National Football League team wants to be on. The Lions fell one game shy of reaching their first Super Bowl during the 2023 NFL season.

Never Been to a Super Bowl: While 28 of the current 32 NFL teams have been to at least one Super Bowl, there are four teams that can't claim that honor: Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars and Texans are two of the newest teams in the league getting their start in the NFL in 1996 and 2002, respectively.

The Browns have been in the NFL for the majority of the Super Bowl era, from 1967 to 1995 and from 1999 to present. The team was relocated to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Ravens in 1995 and later was resurrected as a new team. Coincidentally, the Ravens went on to win Super Bowls in 2001 and 2013.

The Lions hold the unfortunate distinction of being the only team that has been operational every season since the Super Bowl began to never make it to the big game.

Here's a look at the betting odds for the four teams to win Super Bowl LIX or at least reach the big game in the 2024 NFL season, with current odds from DraftKings Inc DKNG.

Cleveland Browns: Reach Super Bowl LIX +2000, Win Super Bowl LIX +4000

Detroit Lions: Reach Super Bowl LIX +550, Win Super Bowl LIX +1200

Houston Texans: Reach Super Bowl LIX +850, Win Super Bowl LIX +1600

Jacksonville Jaguars: Reach Super Bowl LIX +2200, Win Super Bowl LIX +5000

The Lions have the fourth-best odds to win the Super Bowl for the 2024 season and the Texans have the seventh-best odds.

If history can be made more than once, there's a chance that it could be two of the four teams meeting in Super Bowl LIX. With the Lions the only NFC team to not reach a Super Bowl, here's a look at the potential payouts if the following pairs of teams reach Super Bowl LIX:

Lions/Texans: +6075

Lions/Brown: +13,550

Lions/Jaguars: +14,850

Never Won a Super Bowl: While the four teams above are hoping to make history and finally get to the big game, there are eight other current NFL teams that have been but never won a Super Bowl.

The Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings have each been to four Super Bowls without winning a title, posting 0-4 records in the big game. The Cincinnati Bengals are 0-3 in Super Bowl history. Other teams have only been to the big game one time and never made it back.

Here's a look at the eight teams to never win a Super Bowl with their record in the big game and current sports betting odds to win Super Bowl LIX:

Cincinnati Bengals (0-3): +1300

Buffalo Bills (0-4): +1600

Atlanta Falcons (0-2): +3000

Los Angeles Chargers (0-1): +4500

Minnesota Vikings (0-4): +8000

Arizona Cardinals (0-1): +10,000

Tennessee Titans (0-1): +15,000

Carolina Panthers (0-2): +25,000

Several of the teams that have never won a Super Bowl rank among the favorites to start the season with the Bengals and Bills ranked fifth and eighth, respectively.

The Panthers are ranked second to last among teams for odds of winning Super Bowl LIX.

Super Bowl History: The Kansas City Chiefs are among the NFL teams to win multiple Super Bowls and won back-to-back NFL titles for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Chiefs go for history in 2024 trying to become the first NFL team to win three back-to-back-to-back Super Bowls.

The first Super Bowl was played in 1967 with the Green Bay Packers beating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. The Packers have been to five Super Bowls, winning four of them since 1967, with the Chiefs also winning four Super Bowls.

The first Super Bowl made history for many reasons, as it was one of several championship games to be played in the modern era that still included the AFL and NFL before a merger happened in 1970.

Super Bowl I was also the only Super Bowl to be aired on two television networks, NBC and CBS.

With media companies rotating coverage of the Super Bowl annually, Fox Corp FOXFOXA has the rights to air Super Bowl LIX in February 2025.

Comcast Corporation CMCSA is among the key media rights partners for the NFL in 2024 and will kick things off with coverage of the opening night game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5. Comcast also has the rights to the Friday, Sept. 6 primetime game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers and the Sunday Night Football game on Sept. 8 between the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams.

Over the last 57 Super Bowls played, 20 of the current 32 teams in the NFL have won a title. Fifteen current NFL teams have won more than one Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl wins with six each. The Patriots hold the record for Super Bowl appearances with 11.
