The state of California will always play an important role in the history of Tesla Inc TSLA even after the electric vehicle giant moved its headquarters to Texas in 2021.
Tesla is set to pay tribute to the state of California with a new statue.
What Happened: The design of the Cybertruck has been met with praise and also drawn plenty of criticism for its unique structure and how it differs from traditional pickup trucks.
Those who don't like the design of the Cybertruck may not love hearing about a new statue in the state of California.
"Tesla's latest invention looks like what would happen if the California flag could mate with a Cybertruck. It's a grizzly bear, made of meta polygons, illuminated by spotlights," Palo Alto Online writes.
The proposed statue would be present on Page Mill Road in Stanford Research Park, near Tesla's engineering headquarters.
"The concept is a stylized, low-poly California Grizzly bear meant to combine Tesla's design language with California's Grizzly bear, and highlight the common message of strength and unyielding resistance," the statue application reads.
The filing says the bear would be 16 feet and 5 inches long and 11 feet and 5 inches tall. The bear will be made of aged metal according to the filing, which would represent Tesla's "roots in the industry" and also show a "sense of strength, durability, and precision manufacturing."
Tesla also plans on having glowing spotlights around the bear statue that can provide different colors and lighting designs based on events and holidays.
The grizzly bear is the official state animal of California and featured prominently on the state’s flag.
The statue is located where an HP Enterprises monument sign once stood, as the company was the former tenant of the building that Tesla has called its engineering headquarters since 2023.
Tesla's statue plans are being reviewed by the city's Department of Planning and Development Services, according to the report.

Why It's Important: Tesla was founded in California in 2003 and called the state home for many years before moving its headquarters to Texas in 2021.
Musk has also moved several other businesses out of California, announcing in July that his SpaceX and X would move their headquarters to Texas.
California remains home to Tesla’s engineering headquarters, where the bear statue will be located, as well as the Fremont factory, the largest automotive production facility in the United States.
Building the statue in California could symbolize that Tesla will have at least a partial home in the state for the foreseeable future despite CEO Elon Musk vocally opposing several state policies and the politics of the state's government.
