JD Vance Questions Kamala Harris's Middle-Class Credibility, Says 'I Grew Up In A Working-Class Family'

During his recent visit to Michigan, JD Vance took direct aim at Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking to a crowd, Vance questioned Harris’s middle-class background, casting doubt on her credibility. He began by pointing out Harris's frequent mentions of her upbringing. “Kamala Harris will say, ‘Well, did you know that I grew up in a middle-class family? I had a very nice lawn back there in Berkeley, California,'” Vance said, mocking the relevance of her statements. “What the hell does that have to do with lower inflation?” he added.

Vance, who himself grew up in a working-class family, doesn't believe Harris relates to the struggles of everyday Americans. “I grew up in a working-class family,” Vance emphasized, contrasting his background with Harris's. He suggested that Harris has failed to provide real solutions to inflation, housing affordability and other pressing issues. “What is Kamala Harris actually planning to do for the American people?” he asked, noting that after three and a half years as vice president, “she hasn’t done a thing.”

Vance didn't stop there. He blamed Harris for current crises like inflation and the open border, saying, “Kamala Harris is why we have sky-high inflation. Kamala Harris is why you can’t afford groceries or housing.” He also tied her to broader global conflicts, stating, “Kamala Harris is why the world is at war right now in nearly every single continent.”

The Ohio senator's sharp critique reflects the high stakes as the 2024 election approaches, with Michigan being a crucial battleground. Vance highlighted the importance of the state, linking it directly to former President Donald Trump's reelection chances. “The message from Michigan is you’re fired,” Vance declared, suggesting that Harris is unfit for a promotion to the presidency.

Vance also criticized Harris's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing her of firing “millions of American working men and women” for refusing the COVID vaccine. “It is disgraceful for Kamala Harris to say that she stands for the American working man when she fired millions,” Vance said.

Vance's criticism of Kamala Harris's background and policies doesn't tell the whole story. While Vance took aim at Harris's COVID-19 vaccine stance and painted her as anti-working class, Harris, during the pandemic, supported relief efforts that included direct payments and expanded unemployment benefits.

On the public health front, Harris and the Biden administration implemented measures aimed at protecting the population while balancing economic needs. Their vaccination campaign was part of a broader effort to curb the pandemic, not to “fire” workers as Vance claimed. Harris has also played a role in boosting global health security and preparing for future pandemics.

But in the end, Vance's message was clear: Harris's claims of understanding the middle class don't hold up under scrutiny. He made his point with a challenge: “Let's dispense with this idea that Kamala Harris is going to fix the very problem she caused.” For Vance, Harris's record speaks louder than her words.
