Google Starts Rolling Out AI-Powered Security Features To Combat Android Phone Theft

Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google is rolling out new AI-powered security features for Android devices aimed at preventing phone theft. These features, which were initially announced in May, are designed to automatically secure a device if it is stolen.

Mishaal Rahman, an independent Android expert, noted that these features are currently in beta testing and were first observed on a Xiaomi 14T Pro. They have been tested in Brazil since August and are expected to be available more broadly this year.

These security enhancements come as cyber threats continue to evolve, with new malware targeting Android devices to exploit payment data via NFC technology, as noted by cybersecurity firm ESET in August.
