EV giant Tesla Inc. TSLA has dropped the Model Y and 3 rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants in Canada on the heels of a similar move in the U.S.

What Happened: The cheapest Model Y on Tesla’s Canadian website is now the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive which starts at C$59,990 ($44,167).

The long-range rear-wheel drive variant of the Model 3, meanwhile, starts at C$54,990.

Tesla's reasons for dropping the rear wheel drive variant are not known. The company did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Why It Matters: Tesla dropped the Model 3 RWD from its U.S. website last week to make the long-range RWD variant the cheapest available version of the electric sedan.

The company dropped the rear-wheel drive version of the Model Y to replace it with a long-range rear-wheel drive version in the U.S. in May.

The company does not make rear-wheel drive variants of its pricier vehicle models including the Model S, X, or the Cybertruck as of date in either the U.S. or Canada.
