During a recent speech at the Philadelphia City Committee dinner, President Joe Biden was unrestrained in his shots at his predecessor, Donald Trump. Biden fiercely ridiculed Trump for having bankrupted a casino, a move that particularly baffled him. “How is that possible? I thought the house always won,” Biden quipped, drawing laughs from the audience.

Biden addressed Trump’s business record as part of a broader critique of Trump’s presidency and economic policies. He pointed out that Trump, who inherited millions, still managed to run several businesses into the ground, including a casino in Atlantic City. “He inherited 100 million dollars and he went bankrupt how many times? I can’t keep track,” the President said.

Biden said that Trump’s claim to be ‘pro-business’ doesn’t match up with his record of going bankrupt multiple times and having a messy presidency. Biden compared Trump’s failures with the success of his own administration, saying, “On our watch, businesses of all sizes are surging [and there’s] a record number of small business applications." Trump's actions didn't help regular people.
Biden also mentioned the larger economic gains made possible by his administration, such as the creation of millions of new jobs, salary increases, the decline in violent crime and the expansion of health care access.
He used these accomplishments as evidence that, in comparison to Trump’s presidency, his administration has been more successful in raising the standard of living for working Americans.

"Trump wasn't just a loser in 2020," Biden said, "he's a loser in everything he does." The crowd responded with cheers as Biden painted Trump as a man out of touch with the needs of regular Americans and someone who has repeatedly failed, both in business and in public service.
Still, no matter what the President says, many people still feel the pinch, struggling to make ends meet with rising living costs and uncertainty about their financial future. Many families are struggling to afford necessities like groceries, rent and health care as prices keep increasing.
Even though there are more jobs and higher wages, not everyone sees the benefits. Many people still have to work more than one job just to get by. The difference between rich and poor is still large and many Americans feel like they are being left out, even with all the talk about the economy getting better. Because of this, it’s hard for some people to believe the positive picture the government is showing since they are still struggling with money every day.
