Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Endorses Elizabeth Warren's Pro-Crypto Rival John Deaton In Senate Race, Gets A Nod Of Support From Elon Musk

Tech mogul Elon Musk endorsed John Deaton, the pro-cryptocurrency rival locked in a fight with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) for the Massachusetts seat.

What Happened: It all started when Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong took to X Sunday urging Massachusetts residents to vote for Deaton in the upcoming elections.

Armstrong slammed Warren’s anti-cryptocurrency policies, accusing the two-term incumbent of colluding with SEC Chair Gary Gensler to “kill” the industry in the U.S.

“She is anti-freedom, thinks the government should run all financial services (similar to China), and has done enormous harm to this country, ” the CEO added.

Musk reshared the X post with a caption “Yes,” indicating his endorsement of Deaton.

Why It Matters: Deaton won the Republican nomination for Senate in last month’s Massachusetts primary election, setting up a showdown between the two politicians who hold opposing views on cryptocurrency.

Deaton is well-recognized in the cryptocurrency community for his support of Ripple Labs XRP/USD in the ongoing legal tussle with the SEC and also holds around 80% of his wealth in Bitcoin BTC/USD.

In contrast, Warren has been wary of Bitcoin’s exploitation by terrorists, drug dealers, and human traffickers, and used these concerns to call for stricter laws that are perceived to stifle the sector.

That said, Musk’s endorsement of Deaton is not surprising given his public political stance. The Tesla and Space X CEO officially endorsed Trump in July after a shooting incident at a rally in Pennsylvania. The billionaire also attended a Trump campaign event in Pennsylvania earlier this month and termed the election a "must-win situation" for Trump.
