Artificial intelligence startup OpenAI appointed Scott Schools as the company’s chief compliance officer on Tuesday.

“Scott’s deep expertise will further strengthen our team’s ability to deliver beneficial AI technology while continuing to operate with the highest integrity standards and adapting to rapidly evolving regulatory environments,” Che Chang, OpenAI’s general counsel, said in a statement.

Scott brings decades of legal expertise in both the public and private sectors.

Scott has also worked as a U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California and South Carolina.
