EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA has reportedly raised wages for all its employees at gigafactory Berlin.
What Happened: The wage hike has gone into effect since the start of November for Tesla employees at Giga Berlin, Reuters reported.
The factory in Berlin employs nearly 12,000 staff.
The factory in Berlin is Tesla’s one and only in Europe. The factory has a current installed annual vehicle capacity of over 375,000 Model Ys.
Why It Matters: Last month it was reported that the company has been granted approval by the local government ministry near its gigafactory in Berlin to proceed with the first stage of its three-stage plant expansion plan despite protests from locals.
Locals have been protesting against the company's plans to increase vehicle manufacturing capacity to a million units per year at the plant, citing environmental concerns.
According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Tesla had 249,337 new car registrations in the European Union, European Free Trade Association, and the United Kingdom put together from January till the end of September, marking a drop of about 9% from the corresponding period from last year.
