Martha Stewart, the queen of home and garden and America’s original influencer, recently shared a surprising tidbit about one of her closest collaborators: Snoop Dogg. The famous rapper, known for his cool style and relaxed personality, has been a surprising but helpful mentor to Stewart when it comes to learning how to negotiate.

Martha discussed the lessons she gained from Snoop in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, stating, “I’ve learned how to negotiate even better than ever.” The two have collaborated on several projects, such as their popular culinary show, “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party,” where their peculiar bond developed. Martha explained that when they work together, she watches how Snoop handles contract negotiations and she has picked up some savvy techniques by following his lead.
“We do a lot of work together and I wait for him to negotiate the contract, then I go and follow him,” she added with a laugh. Snoop's approach, often described as confident but easygoing, has left an impression on Stewart, who says she's applying some of his methods to her business dealings.

It’s a bit of a role reversal – you’d expect Martha to be teaching the lessons, especially in a business setting. After all, her rise to success is nothing short of iconic. She was a model and then a stockbroker in New York City before becoming the Martha Stewart we know today.
She quit Wall Street in the 1970s to launch her own catering business out of her kitchen, which would eventually result in the development of her enormous media empire. Her first book, published in 1982 and simply called "Entertaining," became an instant hit and established her as the go-to expert for cooking and lifestyle advice.
By the 1990s, Martha had launched her magazine, Martha Stewart Living and in 1999, she became America’s first self-made female billionaire when her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, went public. Although serving time in prison for conspiracy and making false statements in 2004 dealt a serious blow to her career, Martha bounced back stronger than ever, using her trademark flair and tenacity to launch new projects and grow her brand.

Even with all of this under her belt – building a business empire, authoring nearly 100 books and staging a remarkable comeback after a public fall – Martha still sees value in learning from others. This is where Snoop comes in.
The two have become quite the dynamic duo since they first connected in 2008, when Martha invited Snoop onto her daytime talk show to make mashed potatoes. Unquestionably, they clicked and ever since, they have remained friends and worked together on several great projects, including Comedy Central’s roast of Justin Bieber.
Despite having completely different personalities, they seem to complement one another well, whether they’re tackling difficult business situations or cooking up a storm. Stewart’s readiness to pick up tips from Snoop demonstrates that even the most seasoned businesspeople can benefit from fresh perspectives.
