Xbox Cloud Gaming Now Lets You Stream Owned Games: Here's How It Works

Zinger Key Points
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate adds cloud streaming for over 50 owned games, including blockbusters like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
  • The feature works on TVs, browsers, and mobile devices, with console support coming next year.

Microsoft Corp. MSFT has launched a long-awaited feature for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, allowing them to stream select games they already own via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This long-in-development addition has been a goal since 2019, but its rollout faced delays due to the challenge of preparing infrastructure for thousands of titles.

A Promising Start, But Limited Scope

As of today, only 50 games are compatible with the feature, the company announced in a blog post. Despite the modest start, the lineup includes high-profile blockbusters like Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, alongside beloved indie titles like Dredge, Phasmophobia, and The Plucky Squire.

While this is just a fraction of the Xbox catalog, Microsoft has confirmed that the list will grow over time as partnerships expand globally. "Our library of cloud-playable titles will continue to grow," Microsoft stated.

Compatibility And Future Expansion

Currently, the feature supports streaming on TVs and browsers via devices such as tablets, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets. However, console owners will need to wait until next year for functionality on Xbox consoles and the Xbox app on Windows.

The release coincides with Sony's expansion of its own cloud gaming offerings, highlighting the intensifying competition in the space. Xbox Cloud Gaming's new feature sets the stage for further innovations as Microsoft positions itself as a leader in cloud-based gaming.
