Pall Corp Wins Contract - Analyst Blog

Pall Corporation (PLL) has been chosen to supply filtration systems for the Rolls-Royce aircraft engine for the Airbus A350 extra wide-bodied commercial aircraft.

The Airbus A350 aircraft has won more than 500 orders from 33 international carriers and is projected to be in service for several decades. More than 6000 aircraft from the Airbus stable have been delivered and industry sources are projecting revenues to the extent of $100 billion from aircraft production. In other words, the demand for specialized filtration system is likely to be sustained throughout the first half of this century.

The trial run of the engine has already been completed and is expected to be commissioned in 2013. The contract won by Pall Corp is for the entire life of the engine program.

The filtration system is based on Pall's Ultipleat technology which maximizes the filtration surface and is used in both high and low pressure applications.

Pall enjoys above-average financial returns and reasonable growth prospects because of a highly-engineered technology, reliable global distribution, and high market share in niches, long and close working histories with customers, few competitors and solid product quality supplemented by technical service.

PLL is considered to be the largest player in the filtration/separations industry based on its revenue and approximately 7% market share.

In the long run, Pall will likely benefit from several secular trends, such as global infrastructure growth, increasing demand for water filtration systems and continued steady growth in the medical and the pharmaceutical markets.

Changes in product mix and product pricing may impact the company’s operating results, particularly with the expansion of the systems business, in which the company experiences significantly longer sales cycles with less predictable revenue and no certainty of future revenue streams from related consumable product offerings and services.

The company may not be able to achieve the savings anticipated from its cost reduction and margin improvement initiatives, including the timing of completion of its facilities’ rationalization initiative.

Pall Corporation, based in New York, was incorporated in July 1946. Along with its subsidiaries, Pall Corporation is a leading supplier of filtration, separation and purification technologies, and uses its engineering capability and fluid management expertise.

We currently have a Neutral recommendation on Pall Corporation.
