Walmart Shoppers Shun Electronics For Black Friday Deals On Eggs, Bread, Slippers

Zinger Key Points
  • Alongside electronics, some questionable items are among the top searched Black Friday items at Walmart.
  • Black Friday searches for Walmart could point to trouble for consumers or new shopping trends.

Some consumers might have groceries on their minds instead of Christmas gifts or in their holiday shopping carts.

What Happened: Consumers are looking for top deals on televisions, video game consoles and toys this Black Friday shopping season, which comes as experts predict the shopping holiday could top records.

Data from Similarweb, which tracks Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart shows that televisions, laptops, Legos and Apple products are among the items being searched for the most on Black Friday.

Consumers searching for items on Walmart's Inc.’s WMT website might have other plans with grocery items thrown into the mix.

Here are the top 10 searched-for items on Walmart's website on Black Friday according to early data.

  1. TV
  2. Lego
  3. Eggs
  4. Milk
  5. Bread
  6. Slippers
  7. Pokemon Cards
  8. Pokemon
  9. PS5
  10. iPhone

Televisions being the top-searched item isn't a huge surprise as the electronics item is often a top Black Friday sale item and heavy discounts can lead to consumers waiting until the shopping day to make the big purchase.

What comes as more of a surprise are eggs, milk and bread, as well as slippers, among the most-searched items on Black Friday.

Why It's Important: The search results don't mean Walmart is offering doorbuster sales on eggs, milk or bread.

Instead this likely means consumers are buying groceries on Black Friday or adding regular shopping items to their carts as they shop for other products.

The price of eggs rose in recent weeks ahead of the busy holiday baking season due to fears of increased avian flu outbreaks.

While concerns of inflation have eased in recent months, bread, milk and eggs being among the most-searched items on Black Friday could show fears that consumers are still struggling with higher grocery prices.

WMT Price Action: Walmart stock trades at $92.48 on Friday, after hitting a new 52-week high earlier in the trading session. Walmart stock is up 73% year-to-date in 2024.
