Tesla Inc. TSLA has launched its non-foundation series Cybertrucks in Canada, with a starting price of C$114,990 (approx. $79,759) for the lower-priced all-wheel drive variant, while simultaneously hiking the price on the foundation series.
What Happened: While the newly introduced non-foundation series all-wheel drive variant starts at C$114,990 on Tesla’s Canadian website, the more premium Cyberbeast variant starts at C$142,990.
While Tesla started delivering Cybertrucks in Canada several months ago in November, it initially sold only the foundation series version of the vehicle. The foundation series refers to a limited and premium edition version of the vehicle with unique badging and added accessories that the company produced to celebrate the start of deliveries.
The foundation series, however, continues to be available in the company’s inventory in Canada, priced at C$153,990 for the all-wheel drive variant and C$181,990 for the Cyberbeast variant. This marks a significant price hike of as much as 11.6%. The vehicle was previously priced at C$137,990 for the all-wheel drive variant and at C$165,990 for the Cyberbeast variant.
Why It Matters: The price hike on the foundation series Cybertruck comes days after Tesla hiked prices on its cars in Canada. The company hiked prices on the Model 3 by as much as C$9000 and on Model Y, X, and S by as much as C$4000.
Tesla had warned in January that it would hike prices on its cars starting in February, without providing a reason. However, the company had not provided any intimation of a price hike on the stainless steel truck.
