One of the top shows for Apple Inc's AAPL Apple TV+ streaming platform is set to return and comes with the platform having momentum and a reported launch of an ad-supported plan.
What Happened: Soccer comedy "Ted Lasso," which is written, produced by and stars Jason Sudeikis as the title character, is ready to make its return with a fourth season.
While a fourth season has been rumored for years and comes with the season three ending leaving the door open for many characters to return, a fourth season has been officially confirmed and renewed by Apple TV+, as reported by Variety.
"As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap.' In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be," Sudeikis said in a statement.
Sudeikis is the only character confirmed to return for the fourth season with previous reports that actors Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift picked up options to return to the series.
Whether he returns to star in the series as character Roy Kent, Goldstein is attached to be an executive producer and co-write the fourth season.
Added to the team of executive producers is Jack Burditt, who previously worked on "Nobody Wants This," "Modern Family" and "30 Rock." Burditt has an overall deal with Apple TV+.
Warner Bros. Television, which is a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc WBD, produces the series along with Universal Television, which is a unit of Comcast Corporation CMCSA.
"If ever there was a show the world needed more of right now, it would be ‘Ted Lasso,'" Warner Bros. Television Group CEO Channing Dungey said.
Dungey said the company along with fans have been rooting for another season.
"We thank our partners at Apple and can't wait for Jason and the entire ‘Ted Lasso' dream team to step back onto the pitch and deliver another season of this phenomenal series," Dungey said.

Why It's Important: "Ted Lasso" is one of the most successful shows to ever stream on Apple since the first season hit the platform in 2020. A third season aired in 2023 and wrapped up many of the storylines.
The series was nominated for 61 Emmy Awards, winning 13 over the three seasons. The show won back-to-back Best Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards and Sudeikis won back-to-back acting awards for the show.
Sudeikis appeared on the "New Heights" podcast with Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce and confirmed the fourth season. He also said he's coaching a women's soccer team this time around, which is currently the only plot line known.
"Ted Lasso" has a built-in loyal fan base that could help Apple continue its streaming momentum. The series was the most-watched original series on Apple TV+ during its streaming run.
"Severance" recently broke the series record for the most watched series in 30 days with the release of a second season.
A fourth "Ted Lasso" season could give Apple several opportunities to help grow the streaming platform. The company can cross-promote "Ted Lasso" with its Major League Soccer games. The company started doing this towards the send of season three, but had a limited chance to cross-promote.
Apple could also use the launch of a fourth season of "Ted Lasso" to officially launch its long-rumored ad-supported streaming plan or to help better monetize it with high advertising rates likely for the fourth season.
