Joe Rogan strongly responded when reacting to recent comments made by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick about Social Security. On a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan called out Lutnick’s claim that only fraudsters complain when their checks don't arrive.
“If you’re old as f*ck and then all of a sudden your Social Security stops, that's f*cking terrifying,” Rogan said. “If you miss a month, that's a big f*cking deal, man.”

Lutnick's Controversial Statement
Lutnick, during a recent appearance on the “All-In” podcast, said, “Let’s say Social Security didn’t send out their checks this month. My mother-in-law, who’s 94, she wouldn’t call and complain. She just wouldn’t. She’d think something got messed up, and she’ll get it next month. A fraudster always makes the loudest noise, screaming, yelling and complaining.”
That didn't sit well with Rogan and others. Rogan pushed back, saying the comments showed a complete disconnect from reality.
“Do you know people are living barely? There are so many people,” he said. “If you’re on Social Security, you’re on a very fixed income.”

Billionaire investor Mark Cuban also criticized Lutnick, writing on BlueSky last month, “Has Howard Lutnick done anything of value as Commerce Secretary?”
Cuban previously blasted him for not understanding capitalism, saying the U.S. should be focusing on services, where the country has a global trade surplus.
Rogan Reflects on His Childhood
Rogan, who often leans independent politically, but also endorsed Trump in the 2024 election, shared that his own family was once on food stamps and welfare. “We were f*cking poor as sh*t,” he said. “And I remember that helping us a lot. We had food. I don't know what we would've been doing if we didn't.”
He used the moment to highlight the importance of social safety nets in general. “Social safety nets are very important for people. It’s very important for society,” Rogan said. “If you care about people, you care about the whole society.”
Kurt Metzger Weighs In
Comedian Kurt Metzger, who appeared alongside Rogan on the same episode, added his own sharp critique. He said people are freaking out about the Department of Government Efficiency, but at the same time, “there’s nothing cut” because the “continuing resolution means everything got funded again until the next time when they’re going to do another continuing resolution.”
He also criticized political elites for targeting Social Security while leaving massive defense and foreign aid spending untouched. Metzger said the real plan is to eventually go after entitlements like Social Security, calling it “the one scheme they actually want to cut” while everything else stays funded.
For Rogan, the heart of the issue is simple. People need support when they’re struggling, and dismissing their concerns as fraudulent isn't just wrong—it's dangerous. “You’re old and you don’t need that kind of stress in your life.”
