Real estate investor Grant Cardone has been critical of income taxes for many years. He lives in Florida to avoid state income taxes and also capitalize on real estate's tax advantages to minimize federal income taxes.

One of his recent X posts fully captures the disdain he has for federal income taxes, but he also brings up a fair point that generated quite a stir in the comments.

"Show me one thread of proof of how federal tax dollars improved conditions for you or your family," Cardone asked on X.

Some X users replied in support of Cardone, while others provided counterpoints.

Concerns About How Politicians Use Our Money

One X user was critical about how the government has used taxpayer dollars. Some of this X user's sentiment may be driven by the Department of Government Efficiency's findings.

"Show me an honest administration who hasn't embezzled our tax dollars to enrich themselves, besides Trump's administration."

The X post got a bunch of likes, but one reply under that X post accused Trump of embezzling taxpayer funds as well.

Most X commenters seemed to agree with the former. Some people referred to federal income taxes as a scam and criminal.

"Well, they definitely don't improve the roads, that's for sure," one X user responded.

Services Add Up Over Time

Another X user said that it's hard to see the immediate impact of taxpayer dollars since it takes time to establish services and embark on initiatives. This perspective addresses benefits as something that takes a while to realize instead of instant gratification.

"We often don't see the immediate returns on taxes, but those services add up over time. It might not feel personal, but it's a system that impacts everyone," one X user responded.

This post got two responses. The first response mentioned that Dubai doesn't have an income tax. It also highlighted how Florida does well and gives homeschoolers $8,000 per kid while California is "floundering."

Another commenter explained that income taxes pay for air traffic control while Cardone is flying around in his private jet. The commenter also stated that taxes "pay for the roads [that] he drives his Rolls Royce on."

Some Taxation Is Necessary For Society To Survive

One X user explained that they support low taxes while acknowledging that taxes are "necessary for a functioning society."

DOGE can reduce federal spending by identifying waste, and that can lower how much the government has to collect in income tax. There has been more momentum around eliminating federal income taxes as a whole, but that would require a replacement, such as tariffs or a national sales tax.

Some federal tax dollars are deployed into areas that make the country better. Balancing the books and looking at replacements can lead the U.S. closer to zero federal income taxes.
