Elon Musk Says Neuralink Will Help Blind People See Again: 'Will Exceed The Best Human Eyes'

Elon Musk says that Neuralink, which specializes in creating Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), will help ‘completely blind' people see again.

What Happened: On Sunday, an account on X called ‘Whole Mars Catalog’ shared a post hailing Tesla's FSD technology, calling it a means for ‘freedom for all people’ and how being disabled wouldn’t impact people’s ability to travel.

Musk responded to the post by saying, "With Neuralink interfacing directly to the visual cortex, even those who are completely blind will be able to see again."

The billionaire also added that while computer vision would be ‘limited' initially, it will ultimately exceed the ‘best' human eyes.

Why It Matters: While the sector is still in its early stages, technology for BCI and ‘thought-controlled' devices is steadily growing. Be that as it may, Neuralink still is the dominant force in the field.

Neuralink's application has showcased success in the recent past, with Noland Arbaugh, a recipient of a Neuralink implant, controlling computers with his thoughts.

However, Neuralink has its share of critics. Recently, former White House strategist Steve Bannon criticized Musk and Neuralink in an interview. "By seeking to implant computer chips in people’s brains, Musk is attempting to disrupt humanity itself," Bannon said.

Besides Neuralink, Precision Neuroscience is another big player in the BCI sector, having recently secured FDA approval for its implants.
