You don't have to wait until you graduate college to start making money. A teen in high school recently asked Reddit for some suggestions on how to save $2,000 by the middle of August. This teen currently earns $16 per hour but doesn't like the boss. Furthermore, he works seven hours straight with a 10-minute break.
The teen's parents are not financially stable and haven't been able to help him land work or pursue side hustles.
"I've had to figure things out on my own for a while now," the teen told Reddit.
Several people jumped into the comments to share their suggestions.

Seasonal Jobs Can Pay Well
One of the top comments came from a Redditor who was a lifeguard in high school. That job allowed the Redditor to earn $4,000 every summer from 2016 to 2019. However, the commenter was scheduled to work every day at a small neighborhood pool from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It's a long day, but it can be a good starting point for a teenager. It fulfills the original poster's goal of reaching $2,000 by mid-August and doesn't require that they work during the school year.
Looking for seasonal opportunities can expand the Redditor's job pool. Right now, the Redditor only works for their boss because they are the only employer that hired the individual. However, this work gave the Redditor experience, which should make it easier to land a better job. Almost any job seems to be better than the Redditor's current job.

Apply For Summer Jobs Early Early
One person told the Redditor to apply for potential summer jobs right away. Initially, the original poster said they would wait until summer to apply for jobs. The logic is that summer will give the Redditor more time to submit more applications. However, another Redditor shared a key flaw in that logic.
"Start applying early. If you wait until summer to apply, they'll have filled the seasonal jobs."
It's going to take a lot of effort to apply for summer jobs while being a junior in high school and having a job with a hectic schedule. However, the original poster only has to grind with applications over the next two months. It's a short-term effort that can be very beneficial in the long run. Furthermore, this route can help the Redditor reach $2,000 by mid-August.

Other Job Options
The Redditor can choose many career paths, especially when it comes to getting basic experience. One commenter suggested several jobs that the Redditor can consider for some extra summer income.
"If there are any golf clubs in your town or city, I would swing by and ask about any jobs for the golf season. These places usually hire seasonal workers, commonly students, to do landscaping and gardening. It’s tough work but should pay a little more than 16/hour and is relatively stable hours."
This individual went on to recommend working at convention centers, which usually have more events in the summer. Call centers are another option but can be difficult to find in some areas.
Having more options gives the Redditor more flexibility. It's easier to apply for numerous jobs instead of feeling like you are limited. Submitting job applications while juggling school and a job isn't easy, but it can produce meaningful long-term results that go well beyond having the extra $2,000 in time. Continuing to work hard amid adversity and doing everything you can to get on top builds character and can set the Redditor up for a successful career.
