According to an article in The Australian, BHP Billiton's BHP ambitions go beyond just its pursuit of Potash Corp. POT. The authors say that the Australian mining giant is interested in acquiring Anadarko Petroleum APC. They wrote, "the aggressive and acquisitive chief executive (of BHP) are believed to have also been examining a major oil and gas acquisition in tandem with the encirclement of $US38.7 billion Canadian fertilizer player."
According to the article, "a senior figure in the global energy industry is convinced that the "second target" for BHP is Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, telling The Australian he believed the US oil and gas independent was firmly on BHP's radar. BHP declined to comment for this article." APC shares have risen 3.24% to $50.37 during Thursday's trading session.
