Schwab To Roll Out REIT ETF

Charles Schwab SCHW, the discount broker turned ETF issuer, is looking to expand its ETF lineup with the introduction of the Schwab U.S. REIT ETF, which Schwab announced plans for last week. The Schwab REIT ETF will track the Dow Jones U.S. Select REIT index and compete with funds such as the Vanguard's REIT ETF VNQ, the the SPDR Dow Jones REIT RWR and the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate IYR. VNQ is king of that court with $6 billion in assets and an expense ratio of just 0.13%. While Schwab was a late comer to the ETF game, the firm has hauled in $15 billion assets in a short amount of time and has shown no fear in terms of competing directly with Vanguard in terms of low expense ratios.
