Detroit Renaissance Continuing: Fashion Icon John Varvatos To Open Store

John Varvatos embraces his roots by opening his first Midwest boutique in the Motor City.

Varvatos, a Detroit-native, said in an earlier release, “For me, this is much more than a business opportunity. It is also about changing the complexion of a great city and creating a different kind of legacy."

Varvatos’ boutique, which will open at 1500 Woodward Avenue in the heart of downtown Detroit, exemplifies ambitious optimism for the city and a continued investment in Detroit for the designer.

"There will be more exciting retailers coming to Detroit that offer the full spectrum of specialty retail to downtown shoppers. This is just the start of a great retail shopping district in downtown Detroit," Dan Mullen, vice president of leasing and development for Bedrock Real Estate Services, told Benzinga.

This is not Varvatos' first public partnership with Detroit. Not only will Varvatos be opening a permanent storefront in Detroit, but he also has a partnership with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV FCAU.

The men's fashion tycoon and Fiat Chrysler relationship consists of the John Varvatos Limited Edition Chrysler 300 luxury sedan that not only dons Varvatos' name, but also his fashion sense as well. The sedan features Varvatos' inspired design and logo inside and out, and has been touted as "intelligent" and "aggressively styled" by Top Speed.

Trivia tidbit: Around the corner from the new John Varvatos store is Chrysler House, a downtown location that hosts Chrysler's offices outside of its Auburn Hills, Michigan global headquarters.

With Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ stock still in its first week of public trading after a seven-year absence, Detroit continues its push forward by bringing new life back into the downtown area.
