Verizon Communications Inc.
VZ
is interested in acquiring AOL, Inc.
AOL
or taking part in a joint venture according to Bloomberg. Bloomberg emphasised that a deal is not imminent and that AOL was approached informally. Nonetheless, shares of AOL last traded 11.8 percent higher in the after hours session at $50. The report claims that Verizon is interested in working with AOL to boost its online content, mobile video and advertising. At the end of 2013 Verizon acquired a mobile video service called OnCue from Intel to serve a similar purpose. If Verizon is to acquire AOL, it would not be the first time the aging tech giant has tried to partner. Several years ago AOL was apart of Time Warner and activist investors are currently suggesting the company partners with Yahoo.
