Apple Watch Will Sell 40M-42M Units This Year, Chowdhry Predicts

Following the Apple Watch Launch Event held on March 9, 2015, Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry said that Apple Watch will likely "create a completely new successful "Personal Device" category. Sales in the current calendar year can be expected to reach "between 40 million and 42 million units" and "Watch ASP to be above $400," Chowdhry added. Apple Inc AAPL announced Apple Watch in two sizes: 38mm and 42mm, with Base Support Edition at $349 and $399, respectively. The Apple Watch Selection Edition price varies from $549 to $1,099, depending on the Band Selection. The Apple Watch Edition prices will start at $1,000. Apple will start taking pre-orders on Apple Watch starting April 10th 2015, and will start shipping April 24th. In a report published Tuesday, Global Equities Research noted, "Apple Watch is a significant revenue catalyst for Apple." "Apple has created a completely new Category: • just like iPhone redefined mobility; similarly Apple Watch redefines Personal Devices • just like iPhone's are hardly a phone, it does much more than a Phone; similarly Apple Watch is hardly a watch, it does much more than a Watch," Chowdhry wrote. "Apple Watch will have Multiple customers, from Multiple demographics, from Multiple geographies; and will be one of the most successful products from Apple: • Apple Watch is highly customizable, comes in 2 sizes and are available at various price points • Apple Watch will likely have more than 100,000 Apps on AppStore catering to multiple use cases • An average Apple Watch user will have 100 Apps on their Apple Watch. Each App on Apple Watch makes an Apple Watch a completely unique device in itself…the best way to think is that a price of $349 for Apple Watch, the customer is actually getting 100 unique devices..at $3.49 per Device • Hence Apple Watch Pricing is a non issue…and it provides a smart customer segmentation," Chowdhry commented.
