Facebook Inc's FB F8 Conference starts today, but investors don't have to wait for the company's latest news. A number of leaks seem to have already revealed what the company is prepared to announce.
1. Facebook's First Foray Into The Internet Of Things
The never-ending hype for the Internet of Things may continue this week if Facebook unveils Parse for IoT. TechCrunch received a message from the official F8 Conference app that seems to confirm this report.
2. Messenger Becomes A Platform?
The Messenger app has been rumored to be transformed into a platform that would allow developers to create new ways for content to pass through the system. TechCrunch's story on Parse also seems to have confirmed this rumor.
3. Hosting News
The New York Times reported that Facebook has been "quietly holding talks with at least half a dozen media companies about hosting their content inside Facebook rather than making users tap a link to go to an external site."
4. Ad Tools
Bloomberg reported that Facebook is getting ready to unveil new tools that will allow app developers to reach the social network's audience. Facebook might also introduce a mobile ad distributor to keep up with Twitter Inc TWTR.
5. Teleportation!?
The aforementioned TechCrunch report included something that wasn't previously rumored: Teleportation Station. Nothing is known about what this "station" may be, but TechCrunch speculated that the announcement might involve Oculus Rift. If so, Teleportation Station could be Facebook's first official app for the VR headset.
6. On This Day
Facebook jumped the gun and announced On This Day, one of its newest features, a day early. On This Day will allow users to search for photos and posts by date via the new On This Day bookmark. Users can also search "On This Day" or go directly to facebook.com/onthisday. Disclosure: At the time of this writing, Louis Bedigian had no position in the equities mentioned in this report.
