Spain's Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (ADR) BBVA reported a strong rise in its net profit for the first quarter.
BBVA's quarterly net profit surged to EUR1.54 billion ($1.67 billion), versus a year-ago profit of EUR624 million. Basic EPS rose to 0.25 euros from 0.10 euros.
Its net interest income rose to EUR3.66 billion, compared to EUR3.4 billion in the year-ago quarter.
Net income from ongoing operations surged to 1.06 billion euros, versus 744 million euros, a year-ago.
BBVA shares fell 0.97 percent to $10.26 in pre-market trading.
