American Woodmark Corporation AMWD reported stronger-than-expected earnings for the fiscal fourth quarter.
The Winchester, Virginia-based company posted a quarterly profit of $11.3 million, or $0.69 per share, compared to $5.6 million, or $0.36 per share, in the year-earlier quarter. Excluding items, the company earned $0.68 per share.
Its revenue gained 9.5 percent year-over-year to $206.9 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.57 per share on revenue of $209.69 million.
Its gross profit for the fourth quarter widened to 20.9 percent of net sales, from 17.0 percent in the year-ago quarter.
Selling, general and administrative costs increased to 12.4 percent of net sales versus 12.3 percent.
American Woodmark shares fell 0.68 percent to close at $50.99 yesterday.
