Twitter Inc TWTR will add event-based curated content to its platform later this year, according to a report Thursday. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mathonan/twitters-top-secret-project-lightning-revealed#.ttjx6YlMp Twitter shares, off 26 percent in the past three months, traded recently at $34.97, up $0.28 cents. The feature, called Project Lightening, will offer users a collection of tweets, images and videos selected by a team of Twitter editors and associated with a particular event, according to the report by Buzzfeed. Twitter, whose chief executive Richard Costolo recently said he will resign amid stalled user growth, appears to be taking a page from one of its early and still prominent investors, Chris Sacca, who recently went public with a widely covered list of suggestions for Twitter. http://lowercasecapital.com/cables/ Live events are "the biggest opportunity yet" for Twitter according to Sacca, who called its current approach to the category hit or miss. Sacca suggested a dedicated tab for live events, human editors to curate relevant material, promotion and no commitment or log-in requirements. As outlined by Buzzfeed, Project Lightening appears to incorporate all of those elements. "It's a brand-new way to look at tweets," Kevin Weil, who runs product for the company told Buzzfeed. "This is a bold change, not evolutionary." In part of Buzzfeed's description, Weill told the Web site "It's around anything that's interesting It could be current events. It could be breaking news. It could be awards shows or sports."
