Arch Coal, Inc. Reports Third Quarter EPS of $.29

Arch Coal, Inc. ACI today reported third quarter 2010 net income of $46.7 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, compared with net income of $25.2 million, or $0.16 per diluted share, in the prior-year period. Excluding certain charges, third quarter 2010 adjusted net income was $57.4 million, or $0.35 per diluted share. The charges for the third quarter include a pre-tax charge of $10.0 million related to non-cash amortization of coal supply agreements acquired in the Jacobs Ranch transaction as well as a pre-tax expense of $6.8 million related to non-recurring debt extinguishment costs on the redemption of $500 million of Arch Western Resources senior notes due 2013.
