Talking about the U.S. economy, recent Bloomberg
“There are solutions to every problem,” he added. “Those solutions – not ideology – they are practical things that work.”
Dimon continued to tell the hosts about a recent visit he made to Detroit. There, he heard the mayor and governor “speak about the roads, the lights, housing, getting business in. Getting younger kids to open their businesses there. Getting schooling right, creating jobs for kids.”
“That's how we're going to make it a better country,” he assured. “We're not going to make it a better country by pointing fingers and yelling and screaming at each other.”
So, Why Not Run For President?
In response to the affirmations above, host Stephanie Ruhle asked Dimon why wasn’t he running for president, “When you talk about what would help this country, smart politics, bright politics, why not, why don't you raise your hand and do it? Seems like there's 78 people running for president right now.”
To this, Dimon answered very clearly, “I'm not going to run for president, OK?”
JPMorgan’s chairman explained that he thinks most people running for president have been doing so “their whole lives.”
“So it isn't like someone says, 'Oh, I'm a good CEO and I’m going to go be president.' You've got to know what you're doing. And just because you're a good CEO does not mean that you're going to necessarily be a good politician,” Dimon assured.
“I mean I think some of the things that are good for CEOs— [...] if a CEO is good that they're getting top talent in there, having strategies, knowing how to execute and stuff like that; I'm not sure how much that translates into government. It's important but it's not sufficient,” he concluded.
