Océ, a Canon CAJ company, has partnered with Intel Security INTC, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions worldwide, to further strengthen security of its PRISMAsync controller driven production printers. Intel Security will be providing McAfee Embedded Control to be included on PRISMAsync printers.
Today`s sophisticated printing environment is much more than just a network of computers. Devices such as printers, copiers and other peripherals are part of the Internet of Things (IoT) and are also at risk to cyber attacks. These devices play an important role in business productivity and run software enabling the transmission, reception and storage of confidential - sometimes critical - data. Potential security risks may include:
Company confidential intellectual property may be exposed
They are a potential access point into corporate networks because of their connectivity
They allow inbound connections from unknown sources
Most printers are not easily patched for vulnerabilities
In some cases they are easily removable, portable devices
Océ is partnering with Intel Security to address the growing cybersecurity needs for their portfolio of production printers. Intel Security will help protect against known and zero-day threats with memory protection, eliminating dependency on anti-virus updates. Additionally, Océ could realize increased operational efficiency with products designed to allow only required programs to run, reduce patching frequency, minimize outages and reduce support costs.
"The Internet of Things is enabling greater workplace productivity with devices such as smart, connected printers, but we have to be smart as well and realize these devices may create additional security vulnerabilities," said Tom Moore, vice president at Intel Security Group. "We appreciate Océ`s confidence in Intel Security`s ability to provide protection for their high-end production printers."
"The partnership between Océ and Intel Security represents a new front in protecting company confidential data from cyber threats," said Erik van Deurzen, director product marketing of Océ Technologies. "By partnering with a leader like Intel Security, we`re sending a strong message that our PRISMAsync controller driven printing products are the best choice for organizations that value security, control and compliance."
