Amazon Still Up

Amazon.com'S AMZN website is still up and operational, despite reports that WikiLeaks supporters would be attacking the website. Yesterday hackers hacked the corporate websites of Mastercard MA and Visa V, but credit cards were not affected and customer accounts were not compromised. As of the writing of this article, Amazon was still up. What makes this different from Visa and Mastercard is that if the hackers took down the site, this would actually interrupt commerce, whereas the hacks yesterday meant little to the world's population, other than giving the IT department of the credit-card processing companies a headache. This will be an interesting thing to watch going forward, and if the hackers can take down Amazon, what's to stop them from going elsewhere? At last check, shares of Amazon were were up 39 cents to $176.88, a gain of 0.2%.
