Shares of Ciena Corp CIEN surged about11.8% after the company reported mixed Q4 results, but issued upbeat Q1 sales guidance. Ciena reported Q4 loss at $0.86 per share, versus a loss of $0.29 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's revenue increased to $418 million from $176 million. The company projects Q1 revenue of $410 million to $430 million, versus analysts' estimates of $414 million.
US Energy stocks fell today. The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI) lost about 0.5%, while the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG) fell around 0.75%. The Philadelphia Oil Service Index (OSX) fell about 0.11%. The top gainers in the list included Peabody Energy BTU and National Oilwell Varco NOV.
The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) gained about 0.3% after the weekly jobless claims data. Shares of Janus Capital Group Inc JNS rose about 3.1% after analysts at Barclays Capital upgraded the company to an “overweight” rating. The top loser in the list was State Street Corp STT.
