The broader market is sharply higher today, on the back of news that China did not raise interest rates over the weekend, which is helping the energy and commodity names. The following are some of today's most notable movers of interest, categorized by market capitalization (large caps over $10 billion and mid cap between $2-10 billion) and ranked by % change (all stocks over 100K average daily volume)
Large Caps Gainers
Ivanhoe Mines IVN is up around 5% after the company was upgraded before the open to Buy at Desjardins. Basic material names have rallied on the weaker dollar.
Sprint Nextel S is up 4.4% today after it received a price target raise at Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse went from $6 to $8.
Kubota Corporation (ADR) KUB is up sharply today, gaining more than 4%, but not on any specific news.
National-Oilwell Varco, Inc. NOV is up 3.6% as basic material names continue to strengthen on the back of a weaker dollar.
Cameco CCJ is up 3.1% on strength in material names.
Large Caps Losers
Netflix NFLX is down 3.9% after a Hudson Square analyst made bearish comments on CNBC, and noted that there are four factors that will put an end to the company's earnings growth. There was also an article in the New York Times over the weekend about Time Warner's TWX CEO Jeff Bewkes speaking negatively about the company.
Dell DELL is down almost 3% as the name was resumed resumed with a Sell rating at Goldman with $10 target. It also announced this morning it would be acquiring Compellent CML for $27.75 per share or ~$820 mln, net of cash.
F5 Networks FFIV is down despite it being added to the Nasdaq 100. Last check, shares were off around 2%.
Hewlett-Packrd HPQ is down around 1.5% after the Palo Alto-based technology company was resumed with a Sell rating at Goldman with $38 target.
