GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 7, 2009) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, announced today the appointments of James S. Paul, effective September 8, 2009, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Defence Construction Canada, and William F. Pentney, effective immediately, to the Board of Directors of Defence Construction Canada.
"I am very pleased to announce the appointment of James S. Paul as President and CEO of Defence Construction Canada for a term of five years," Minister Paradis stated. "Mr. Paul's extensive experience in the private sector will provide outstanding vision and guidance to the Board."
"I am also pleased to announce the appointment of William F. Pentney to the Board of Directors for a term of four years," Minister Paradis stated. "Mr. Pentney's legal background and public sector experience will be a great asset to the Board."
Mr. Paul has held senior management roles with Canadian technology companies for 28 years and is a founder of Impath Networks-a high-tech company. Previously, he was Managing Partner, Vice-President and General Counsel of an Ottawa-based management consulting and investment banking firm providing financial and business advisory services to Canadian technology companies. Mr. Paul also held senior management positions with Newbridge Networks Corporation and prior to that, was Director of the legal department at Mitel Corporation. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation-a federal Crown Corporation operating three national museums. Mr. Paul holds a Law degree from the University of Ottawa, and also has extensive experience in investment banking, as well as mergers and acquisitions work.
Currently, Mr. Pentney is the Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence and holds a B.A. from Queen's University, as well as a Law degree and a Master's in Public Law from the University of Ottawa. Previously, he held senior positions with the Privy Council Office and the Department of Justice.
Defence Construction Canada is a federal Crown corporation that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Public Works and Government Services. The corporation provides contracting, construction contract management and related infrastructure services to the Department of National Defence.
