Shares of
Twitter IncTWTR were trading higher by more than 2 percent early Tuesday morning after
Bloomberg reported the social media company won a new deal with the National Football League (NFL) to stream some of its games online.
Bloomberg, citing "a person familiar with the matter," stated that Twitter beat out a "slate of heavyweights" including to broadcast Thursday night games. The company edged out Facebook Inc. FB, Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, Yahoo! Inc. YHOO and Amazon.com Inc. AMZN in winning the new contract deal.
Bloomberg also noted that the NFL is targeting its "cord cutters" fans who don't mind live streaming video over the internet.
