Custom prototyping and low-volume production company Proto Labs, Inc. PRLB has announced Rich Baker as its new Chief Technology Officer starting May 2. Baker replaces longtime Proto Labs' employee and current CTO, Don Krantz, who recently announced his retirement.
During his career, Baker has held similar technology positions at PaR Systems, MTS Systems, and Rohm and Haas. "Rich has a wealth of technical expertise and more than 18 years of leadership experience," said Proto Labs' CEO, Vicki Holt, in a message to employees.
He is also the current chairman of NanoVox, "a nonprofit public-private partnership focused on advancing nano-technology and advanced materials" and is a Cornell University graduate with a Ph.D. in theoretical and applied mechanics.
Baker joins Proto Labs during a time of fast and steady growth — a situation Baker is comfortable with. As CTO at MTS, he played an integral role in building the company's revenue to approximately $470 million.
"Proto Labs was built on automation software that reinvented traditional injection molding processes," said Holt. "With Rich's expertise and guidance as CTO, we will continue to be a leader in digital manufacturing."
