Technology stocks tumbled today, as shares of F5 Networks FFIV dipped about 21.6% after reporting weaker-than-expected results and projections. Other decliners in the list included Cisco Systems CSCO, EMC Corp EMC, NetApp Inc NTAP and Juniper Networks JNPR. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped about 1.04%. However, shares of eBay Inc EBAY gained about 4% after reporting a 17% surge in its quarterly profit. The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) fell about 1.48%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) dipped about 1.96%. Shares of Southwest Airlines Co LUV gained about 0.9% after the company reported 13% y/y rise in its Q4 net income. LUV's earnings came in at $0.18 per share, up from $0.16 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding special items, LUV reported its earnings at $0.15 per share. LUV's total operating revenue surged about 15% y/y to $3.11 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.16 per share, on sales of $3.1 billion. Shares of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc FCX dropped about 4.6% after the company lowered its 2011 copper and gold sales guidance. FCX's Q4 profit came in at $3.25 per share, up from $2.15 per share, in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue increased 21.5% y/y to $5.6 billion. However, analysts were expecting profit of $2.97 per share on revenue of $5.35 billion. Shares of Google Inc GOOG dropped about 0.7% as the company is all set to report its quarterly earnings after the closing bell. Google is expected to report its Q4 earnings at $8.07 per share on revenue of $6.05 billion.
