HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Ends Season With Record Highs

It's become expected for shows of this caliber to top themselves with each finale, and the last "Thrones" of 2016 did just that earning 8.9 million viewers (over live + same day viewership). On par, this tops the previous record, which was 8.1 million set during last year's finale.

HBO has seen increases every season with the biggest jump coming between seasons three and four, which leaped form 5.4 million viewers to 7.1 million viewers. On average, this season of "Thrones" has averaged over 23 million views across all platforms, which HBO's streaming app at one point crashing during the penultimate episode "The Battle of the Bastards."

The series also drew a highly favorable 4.4 rating in the 18–49 demo, which doesn't really matter as much to the subscription based service, but still impressive. Investors can expect those numbers to climb even higher when the live+7 numbers come out next week.
