Live Cattle Futures Trading Higher

October live cattle is trading at 99.05, up 0.15 cents/lb. December live cattle is trading at 100.72, up 0.62 cents/lb. February live cattle is trading at 101.30, up 0.70 cents/lb. Live cattle futures are trading choppy and higher just after the open. Friday's USDA cattle slaughter was 110,000 head and Saturday's was 49,000 head. The total slaughter for last week was 611,000 head, up from 592,000 head the week before and 7.4 percent a year ago. The dressed steer weights for the week ending September 17th were at 905 pounds, up from 903 the previous week and down from 923 pounds a year ago.
