The U.S. Department of Agriculture's cattle-on-feed report was released Friday after the close of livestock trading.
Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market totaled 10.266 million head on October 1, 2016, 0.4 percent above October 1st 2015. Placements in feedlots during September totaled 1.905 million head, 1.9 percent below a year ago. The agency data showed marketings of fed cattle during September totaled 1.732 million head, up 5.5 percent versus a year ago.
