Amazon's Latest Brick-And-Mortar Store Will Change Retail Forever

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN's latest foray into brick-and-mortar retail could shake up the entire retail industry. Located in the company’s hometown of Seattle, the newest store is called Amazon Go, and it's a grocery story with no lines or checkout counters.

How It Works

Amazon Go utilizes computer vision and sensors to detect what items have been taken out of the store. Consumers will scan an app as they enter the store, and sensors will automatically be able to identify what items are in shoppers' carts.

The experience will feel a little like shoplifting, except there will be casino-like surveillance. Not only will the shopping experience be seamless for the customer, Amazon will be able to track movements and items to take advantage of shopping behavior and tastes.

This idea is sure to shakeup retail as a whole and could be the ultimate demise of the grocery worker.

The store is open to Amazon employees, and the official launch is scheduled for early 2017.
