TASER International, Inc. TASR secured a contract with the state of Louisiana to equip each of its state troopers with two Axon Body 2 cameras — a sale of 1,556 cameras. Units are retailed at $399, but the contract's present worth is unclear.
Gov. John Bel Edwards and the head of Louisiana State Police, Col. Mike Edmonson, announced the plan during a news conference at the governor's mansion.
Taser shares rose more than $1 shortly after Benzinga reported that the company secured the contract. The stock traded recently at $25.09, up 2.9 percent on the day.
Louisiana is the first to supply all troopers with body cameras, which will be issued in January in Louisiana's French Quarter before expanding throughout the state.
On Tuesday, TASER also won a bid with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, which bodes well for the company after lost business in the fall.
In October, shares fell 14 percent after Taser lost a $6.4 million partnership with the New York Police Department, which was ultimately awarded to Vievu. At that time, Taser maintained contracts with 36 of top 60 U.S. police departments.
