According to Variety, Seinfeld's show used to be exclusive to the streaming service Crackle, but Netflix wooed the comedian and his coffee sipping, story sharing show to come to Netflix in late 2017.
Variety noted that in addition to 59 already aired episodes, 24 new "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" segments will come to Netflix's platform by the end of the year, with even more to come in 2018 and beyond. Seinfeld's new agreement with Variety also includes two new stand-up specials that will be filmed exclusively for Netflix.
Global Reach
Signing Seinfeld to Netflix's roster is merely an extension of the streaming media platform's strategy over the years. Of particular note, Netflix is now a global streaming platform, and this is evident in the large number of international comedians signed on to Netflix.
Here is a roundup of other comedians that have signed deals with Netflix.
- Louis C.K.'s "Love At The Comedy Store" is already available for streaming on Netflix.
- Chris Rock will be paid $40 million to perform two comedy specials.
- Dave Chappelle will earn $60 million for three comedy specials.
- Gad Elmaleh, dubbed "France's Jerry Seinfeld," will star in a French and English comedy show.
- One of India's most notable comedians, Vir Das, will be coming to Netflix's global audience.
