Verizon Responds To Go90 Criticism

There's drama in the competitive cellular mobile industry.

A day after Frost & Sullivan analyst Dan Rayburn criticized Verizon Communications Inc. VZ’s Go90 video platform as “pretty much dead,” T-Mobile US Inc TMUS CEO John Legere tweeted confirmation.

But a Go90 representative defended the venture and told Benzinga its numbers have been rising.

“December was our best month in terms of organic growth on Go90, and January just eclipsed that,” spokesperson Jerry Rizzo said Thursday. “Does that sound like ‘pretty much dead’ to you? Mr. Rayburn is simply misinformed and can meet with us any day to learn about how alive we are.”

During Verizon’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call, chief financial officer Fran Shammo reported more than 2 million downloads of the Go90 app.

Still, representatives said they didn’t expect Go90 to turn a profit until about two years into the venture. Verizon launched the platform in summer 2015.
