Apple working on unlimited music re-downloads with music labels

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is currently in talks with several music labels, trying to negotiate the ability for iTunes Store customers to re-download their previously purchased tracks as many times as they want. This would allow any device to download any track as many times as need, as long as it is authorized with that iTunes Store account. According to the report, the deal could be made official in the middle of this year, and would allow Apple to have a “digital locker” of sorts, allowing users music to be accessed on any device.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is in talks with record companies to give iTunes customers easier access to music they've purchased across multiple devices, said three people with knowledge of the plans.

Apple is negotiating with music companies including Vivendi SA (VIV)'s Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG) and EMI Group Ltd., said the people, who asked for anonymity because the talks are private. An agreement may be announced by midyear, two of the people said.

The deal could become part of MobileMe, especially with an overhaul being rumored over the past few weeks.
